Cellscape: Navigating the microscopic realm

Cellscape VR is a project developed in collaboration with the Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB) at UCL. We developed novel approaches to segment and process imaging data from in vivo experiments at a cellular and inter-celluar level, combining thousands of 2D microscopy images and 3D imaging data into a coherent 3D digital model, where each cell and/or virus can be three-dimensionally individuated. These models are then introduced to a virtual environment and magnified, enabling our collaborating scientists to travel 'into' the interior of the cells they are studying, whilst being able to utilise a range of analytical tools that slice, X-Ray, explode, or filter the cells they are experiencing.

Cellscape VR was part of a Create Lates event at the Science Museum, London on May 9th 2024.
